The Detective Bureau is responsible for investigations on every felony committed in Whitehall and some misdemeanor crimes. The Whitehall Division of Police handles about 1,500 felony investigations per year along with undercover and intelligence operations.
The Detective Bureau also operates and maintains a mobile crime scene processing unit capable of processing most serious crime scenes through the use of modern technology. The Detective Bureau also employs technology for the forensic analysis of recovered evidence and the capability for the forensic examination of electronic devices. The Detective Bureau also maintains equipment for covert surveillance and undercover operations.
