The Whitehall Division of Fire will begin flushing fire hydrants on May 16th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The flushing of all fire hydrants will be completed by June 29th. The springtime flushing of the hydrants assures that each hydrant is in proper working order. It also eliminates dirt and debris that may cause a malfunction of either the hydrant or the fire engine during use. Hydrants that fail inspection will be turned in for repair and marked so as to avoid confusion during an emergency. Hydrant flushing can cause rusty water to appear from your house’s water service. Do not be alarmed because it presents no immediate hazard. Allow water to run until clear if rusty water appears. Please avoid doing laundry during the times of hydrant flushing in your area. If you have any questions, please contact the Division of Fire at (614) 237-5478.
