Fairway Boulevard Infrastructure and Safety Improvement Project
The City is considering a multi-faceted infrastructure improvement project along Fairway Boulevard, from Main Street to Hamilton Road. The main goals of the project are to improve motorist and pedestrian safety, while increasing accessibility along the roadway for active modes of transportation (walking, jogging and cycling). The project is in the early phases of planning, and is ultimately contingent on state and federal grants to help offset the $8 million project budget (proposed funding details are included below).
Proposed Improvement Summary:
- Download Preliminary Design Documents
- Installation of a roundabout at Etna Street and Fairway Boulevard
- Installation of 3 to 5 speed humps (pending successful testing of the humps in other Whitehall neighborhoods)
- Creation of a 10 to 12-foot shared use path on the Big Walnut Creek/Country Club side of Fairway Boulevard. A shared use path is a trail that runs alongside a roadway, providing exclusive right-of-way to pedestrians and cyclists. The proposed shared use path would help connect Whitehall to trail systems in surrounding communities.
- Street resurfacing from Main Street to Hamilton Road
- New street lights (similar to the streetlights installed along Yearling Road)
Proposed Project Funding Sources: $8 million total project cost (estimated)
- Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) Attributable Funds
- 80% grant; 20% local match
- Partial grant; Partial 26-year interest free loan
- Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) Funds
