[ARCHIVED] Arrest Made in Felony Stalking Incident After Pursuit

PRESS RELEASE 2021-007 Photo

On 4/25/21, a female/victim contacted the Whitehall Police Department. She reported that an ex-boyfriend, Gyasi Coles, was stalking her. The victim reported that Coles had been showing up at her work, her residence and her family's residence trying to make contact with her. The victim also reported that Coles had chased her in her vehicle. During this chase, Coles rans into the rear of her vehicle and continued to accelerate while pushing her vehicle forward.

One 4/27/21, Whitehall Officers located Coles near the victim's location. Coles had active warrants for his arrest from the previous incident. A traffic stop was attempted and Coles fled from officers in his vehicle. The vehicle pursuit was terminated due to the public safety concerns being created by the high speeds Coles was driving.

Whitehall detectives located Coles a short time later. Detectives attempted to stop Coles but he rammed detective vehicles and fled the area.

Later on in the day, Coles was located a third time. He again fled from Whitehall officers. After a brief pursuit, Coles wrecked into a parked vehicle in the area of Ellery Dr. and Lattimer Dr. in the City of Columbus. Coles was taken into custody without incident. No parties were injured.

Coles was charged with three counts of Failure to Comply with the Orders of Police Officer (F-3) and Menacing by Stalking (F-4). He also had previous warrants for Menacing by Stalking.

"The victim from this incident reported to be afraid for her safety. Our patrol officers and detectives did a great job taking this suspect off the street in a timely manner," said Deputy Chief Dan Kelso.
