[ARCHIVED] Whitehall Police Request Witness Comes Forward in Fatal Hit-Skip

On 02/21/18 at approximately 10:14 PM, Whitehall Police responded to a hit-skip accident at the intersection of E. Main St. and Shady Lane Rd. where a pedestrian was struck and killed. The vehicle in question was traveling westbound on E. Main St and turned southbound on Shady Lane Rd, striking the pedestrian, identified as Phillippe Schlagetter, age 57, who was crossing Shady Lane Rd. in the crosswalk. The vehicle fled south on Shady Lane Rd. without stopping. Schlagetter died at the scene.

Area surveillance footage confirms that there is a witness driving directly behind the vehicle that struck Schlagetter. It is clear from the footage that the witness saw the accident and even stopped in front of the body. Police believe the suspect vehicle may be a shade of red and could be an SUV.

“This individual has legal obligation to come forward to police and report exactly what he or she saw,” said Deputy Chief Dan Kelso, “Not only do they have a legal obligation, they have a moral obligation. How would they feel if this was their family member and a witness did or said nothing?”
