Dispatcher Entrance Exam

The city will no longer be conducting entrance exams for the position of dispatcher/communication operator. Should there be a vacancy, it will be posted under job opportunities.

Police Officer Entrance Exam - CURRENTLY TESTING

Visit to sign up to take the entrance exam.
Civil Service rules and the City of Whitehall require an entrance exam to be taken for safety-sensitive positions (Police & Fire). The current eligibility list for police officers is nearing expiration. We encourage all those interested in becoming a police officer for the City of Whitehall to take the NTN test and have your scores sent to Whitehall. The list and posting will be continuous so there is no deadline for submitting your scores. Once you have completed the NTN personal history questionnaire, submitted your scores to Whitehall, and a vacancy occurs, you will be notified of your ranking on the eligibility list. There will not be an internal application on this website.

Firefighter / Paramedic Entrance Exam

The Civil Service Commission recently held entrance exams through the National Testing Network, Inc. (NTN) for the position of firefighter. The next testing period will likely be October 2019. If you wish to be notified about future test dates, please view this website 30-60 days in advance for further information and application instructions or subscribe to be alerted when another entrance exam is posted.

When testing is available (Firefighter, Police Officer, Dispatcher and Clerical) , please go to, and sign up for the City of Whitehall. Exams are held at various times. Please see the above information regarding each potential exam date. The application period must be open in order to apply and send test scores.  

What to expect at the website:

  • Review all information related to the City of Whitehall positions including minimum requirements, salary and benefits. 
  • Schedule your own convenient test time. Tests can be offers multiple times a week, including Saturdays.
  • Opportunity to take online practice tests.
  • Take high quality job simulation tests in a standardized, fair testing environment.
  • Upon completion of the entry level exam, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the City of Whitehall's Civil Service Commission.  Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry level exam will be placed on the eligibility list. The City of Whitehall's Civil Service Commission will contact candidates on the list when a position becomes vacant and at that time will invite them to continue to in other stages of the selection process.

    National Testing Network does not replace the City of Whitehall's Civil Service Commission responsibility and decision making in the testing process.  All candidate results are provided to the City of Whitehall where the final decisions are made.
